MSN Messenger worm/virus on the loose...

I received a message from one of my IM contacts yesterday to view a link that was sent in an IM message to me. But the message was quite obvious - a virus. I did not click as usual. Now, today, I received another similar message from my previous boss and good friend Steven Lopez. I knew I had to send out an alert to him and my whole group. Well, the alert was out in no time. Me and Steven, searched the web frantically for a cure. I could not find anything other than this site Happy-Messaging.com but it had nothing on the new virus. Searched the MSN Messenger official site - nada. In the mean time, Steven is getting anxious about the virus.
Well, in about 5-10 minutes, Steven sends me an email saying:

Ok, I think I figured out how to stop the virus… Go to MSN IM and change your password!! The virus then can’t work without your password!
Good job, Steven...

  1. Just out of curiosity, was the virus called something like 'webdesign.zip'? If so, I'm encountering the same frustrating lack of information online!

  2. marsehole, this was not related to "webdesign.zip". I have to agree that I did not find any information about a "webdesign.zip" MSN virus online. I will keep looking and if I find anything, I will update this post.
